Cyprus fuel prices rise 24.6% year on year in September, below EU's 31.4%
Prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport in Cyprus rose 24.6 per cent in September 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to Eurostat data, below the EU-wide increase of 31.4 per cent. The annual rate in Cyprus accelerated for a second consecutive month, from 9.9 per cent in July and 19.1 per cent in August. Between August and September, diesel prices in Cyprus rose 6.8 per cent and petrol 3.8 per cent, the smallest petrol increase among the 26 EU countries where prices went up. Across the EU, the annual rate climbed from 16.9 per cent in July and 23.8 per cent in August to 31.4 per cent in September, with the biggest rises in Bulgaria at 42.2 per cent, Estonia at 40.6 per cent and Lithuania at 40.2 per cent, and the lowest in Hungary at 6.9 per cent.
Fuel costs in Cyprus are still climbing year on year and the pace has accelerated for two months running, so running a car keeps getting more expensive even though the island's increase remains below the EU average.
