President opens €4.1m renovated A&E department at Nicosia General Hospital
President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday inaugurated the renovated and expanded accident and emergency department at Nicosia General Hospital, a project costing €4.1 million. He said upgrading A&E departments across the country is a key government priority, and that the investment improves how patients are received and makes staff work easier. The revamp includes two notable additions: a dedicated room where patients' relatives can speak to doctors and get updates on their loved ones' condition, and a rest area for staff working under demanding conditions. Christodoulides said he had twice taken his daughters to the Nicosia A&E since taking office, both times following normal procedures like any other citizen.
For people using Nicosia General's A&E, relatives now have a separate room to speak with doctors and receive updates on a patient's condition, and staff have a dedicated rest area. The government describes nationwide A&E upgrades as a priority, so similar works at other hospitals are on its agenda.
