Oxford honours Cypriot conductor Marios Papadopoulos and his wife Anthi
The University of Oxford has honoured the internationally acclaimed Cypriot conductor and pianist Marios Papadopoulos and his wife, Anthi Papadopoulou, with the Distinguished Friend of Oxford Awards 2026, presented on 1 October at a ceremony held in the Divinity School in Oxford. The awards, established in 1999, recognise people who have volunteered their time, experience and influence to projects and initiatives benefiting the university. Papadopoulos, who was born in Limassol, founded the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra in 1998 and has since served as its music director and conductor, playing a decisive role in its development.
