Pensions in Türkiye: retirement age, contributions and life after 55
In Türkiye pensions are paid by the Social Security Institution (SGK). Age and contribution days depend on when you were first insured: those first insured before 08.09.1999 have no age requirement — only service and contributions. The EYT reform (Law No. 7438 of 03.03.2023) let those waiting only on age retire.
Retirement conditions (SGK)

Pensions abroad and combining service
- a Turkish pension can be received abroad — ask SGK about the payment route;
- periods worked in two countries can be combined under social security agreements (with Germany since 1964);
- residence permits (ikamet) can be extended for pensioners.
Before you move
- check your SGK service record before moving;
- clarify how your pension is taxed in the paying country;
- keep contribution records in both countries — they are needed to combine periods.
