Residence visa and Emirates ID in the UAE: issue and renewal
Residence in the UAE is always tied to a sponsor or a ground: an employer, your own company, property, study, retirement or family. The Emirates ID is the resident's mandatory card and the key to banking, utilities, SIM cards and schooling.
How it works
- The residence visa is issued after the sponsor's application, a medical fitness test and biometrics.
- The Emirates ID is issued by the ICP (and GDRFA in Dubai) for residents aged 15 and over.
- Standard employment residence is granted for two years and is renewable.
- Family members are sponsored separately by the resident.
